Nu slechts € 17,99 Recorded in his home state of Texas, as well as in Los Angeles and Seattle, S.D.Q. is a Doug Sahm album in which this mid-fifties rocker seems as strong as ever. A couple of the tunes were recorded with a young and sprightly band from Austin, The Gourds. The band leads off the set backing Sahm on his rollicking ''Get A Life''. On the track, Sahm sings, ''When you feel like Herman Hesse, and you're playin' too much chess, just have a beer, no need to fear, and get a life''. The Gourds' accompaniment on ''Goodbye San Francisco, Hello Amsterdam'' harks directly back to the Sir Douglas Quintet of the '60s. Also on board is keyboardist Augie Meyers, whose organ was a defining characteristic of the Quintet (he even steps forward and sings the lead vocal on ''The Ballad of Davy Crockett''). Sahm also revisits his gorgeous ''Give Back The Key To My Heart'' (also heard on TEXAS ROCK FOR COUNTRY ROLLERS in 1976). The production throughout is bright, with the interplay of the band engagingly right up front.
