One could make an argument for them as post-hardcore's Scandinavian answer to early Redd Kross, because a similar ''take nothing seriously'' quality and trash culture obsession peg the group unfairly as shallow jokers. In fact, the Smackdown are shallow jokers with chops to spare, and the brutally fast, hyper-aggressive Someone Has to Kill the Headwriter is proof that modern post-hardcore doesn't require whiny mopery. At 13 songs in exactly 21 minutes and 21 seconds, there's no time for grandiosity, but there's a surprising number of pure pop vocal hooks and catchy guitar riffs in songs like ''To Go Kamikaze'' and ''Rewritten for Dramatical Purposes,'' which features a stop-time handclap hook right out of a classic bubblegum single. Silly and utterly disposable, Someone Has to Kill the Headwriter is also unapologetically fun. ~ Stewart Mason
