Nu slechts € 15,99 Although El Ciego Melquiades did play on some numbers with vocals, all 20 of the tracks on this compilation are instrumental, all but two of them recorded from 1935 to 1938 (the final two songs were done in the late '40s). Like many such recordings of the era, though aimed at a secular audience, these now have primarily folkloric value, documenting a once popular folk style that's no longer too popular. El Ciego Melquiades is accompanied by guitar, violoncello, and string bass (and also by clarinet on ''Todos Ellos'') on jaunty waltzes, two-steps, and polkas that don't have a huge amount of melodic and rhythmic variation. It's sentimental good-time Texas Mexican-American music with some bright humor, indeed finding much of its use back in the day at house parties, as the title of the disc indicates. ~ Richie Unterberger
