€ 17,99SoCal screamo/pop-metal outfit Atreyu has exactly what the youth of the new millennium crave: a contradiction in terms that allows fans to have it both ways--music that presents diffuse anger that is then offset with busy, anthemic pop melodies. The group's dual vocal counterparts solidify this formula, as one man drives (drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller, crooning from the Billie Joe Armstrong school of pop-punk) while the other man screams (frontman Alex Varkatzas starts all the sentences that Saller finishes with furious, throaty invectives). One would think that these conflicting styles might cancel each another out but, set against the band's angsty, busy arrangements, they manage to keep all of the plates spinning, even including some tricky relay racing of lyrics on ''We Stand Up''. With A DEATH GRIP ON YESTERDAY, Atreyu come closer to paving the path they forged earlier on. |
