But the keyboardist's musical growth blues-pop rockers to more complex sounds didn't just happen overnight; it can be detected on such albums as 1973's MESSIN', which serves as a bridge between old-school Mann and the new regime. The album-opening title track and ''Get Your Rocks Off'' border both musically and lyrically on blues-based hard rock (a la Mountain), while the textured guitar work of ''Cloudy Eyes'' showed that the band was trying to branch out.
