Nu slechts € 14,99 Of all the famed onetime lead singers from the Temptations, Dennis Edwards had the most obscure solo career, in part because his first album didn't come out until about a decade after the group's heyday had ended. That also meant that Don't Look Any Further didn't have much similarity to Edwards' work in the Temptations, or indeed the pre-1980 sound of Motown, though the singer was still with the label when it came out. While his muscular vocals remained identifiably intact, the sound was very early to mid-'80s, particularly in its prominent use of a Roland TR-808 drum machine. The glossy production, combined with songs (some co-written by producer Dennis Lambert) that were very much in the adult contemporary soul mold, has heavily dated the album as a product of its time. Commercially, however, the approach did pay some dividends, with ''Don't Look Any Further'' (also featuring singer Siedah Garrett) making number two on the R&B charts, as did the album itself. Sampled many times since Eric B. & Rakim did so in 1987, it was the most memorable track on a record containing both moderately funky numbers and sweet ballads. The 2011 CD reissue has four bonus tracks (including a single version of ''[You're My] Aphrodisiac'' and three different 12'' mixes of ''Don't Look Any Further''), along with historical liner notes with quotes from Edwards, Lambert, and Garrett. ~ Richie Unterberger
